CLINICAL PEARL- NASOGASTRIC TUBE INSERTION

To facilitate nasogastric tube insertion, use lidocaine (Xylocaine) in ointment form around the nares and and as a spray to the back of the throat. Also, use metoclopramide (Reglan) to assist with motility.
