Easing painful cryotherapy

When treating warts with any kind of painful cryotherapy, I give patients lidocaine and prilocaine in an emulsion base (EMLA Cream) to apply to the wart site one hour prior to their visit. This works well for children and patients with warts on sensitive areas. EMLA Cream should be used only on areas with intact skin.—ALLYSON CORDONI, CNP, Honolulu (150-13)
