FDA approves Accu-Chek Combo insulin pump
The FDA has approved a new insulin pump system -- the Accu-Chek Combo system (Roche) -- that combines a blood glucose meter and insulin pump, which exchange data using Bluetooth technology.
The system enables users to quickly test blood glucose levels and operate the insulin pump remotely by means of a bolus advisor to determine the right amount of insulin.
Other features of the Accu-Chek Combo System include: flexibility to adjust the basal rate to as low as 0.05 units per hour (in 0.01 unit increments), and an insulin cartridge that holds up to 315 units of insulin, the largest capacity among available pumps.
Other Accu-Chek glucose monitors include: Accu-Chek Active, Accu-Chek Advantage, Accu-Chek Aviva, Accu-Chek Compact Plus, Accu-Chek Voicemate and Accu-Chek Nano. Roche plans to launch the Accu-Chek Combo System later this year.
