Preventing drug confusion

Many providers confuse metoprolol tartrate (Lopressor) and metoprolol succinate (Toprol XL). Here is an easy way to keep them straight: Tartrate with a T is Twice a day or more, and succinate with an S is usually a Single dose daily. — Dori Lawson, CRNP, FNP-BC, Reading, Pa. (156-13)
