Triad Group recalls contaminated alcoholic prep pads

Over-the-counter product manufacturer Triad Group has issued a voluntary product recall for all lots of alcoholic prep pads, swabs and swabsticks distributed in Canada, Europe and the United States due to Bacillus cereus contamination.

The involved products are private labeled for many consumer level accounts and sold nationwide in retail pharmacies. The products come in boxes of 100 individual packets, and the lots in question are marked as both sterile and nonsterile.

Although the manufacturers have only received one report of a minor skin infection, they warned that contaminated products could result in potentially life threatening infections.

“We are, out of an abundance of caution, recalling these lots to ensure that we are not the source of these contamination issues,” the company wrote in a press release.

Consumers can identify affected prep pads, swabs and swabsticks by identifying “Triad Group” as the manufacturer on the package or by the third party names listed here: Boca/Ultilet, Cardinal, CVS, Conzellin, Moore Medical, PSS Select, VersaPro and Walgreens.

Those who possess the recalled products should discontinue use immediately, the company warned. Instead of returning the product on their own, consumers should call the Triad Group Customer Service line listed below between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM, Central Time, for instructions and an authorized return number: 262-538-2900.

Any adverse events or quality concerns associated with these products should be reported to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program.
