Arthritis/rheumatic disorders:
Indications for: HYALGAN
Treatment of pain in osteoarthritis of the knee in patients who have failed nonpharmacologic therapy and analgesics (eg, acetaminophen).
Adult Dosage:
Prior to treatment: remove joint effusion (use separate syringe), if present; and give local anesthetic (eg, lidocaine) by SC inj. Inject 2mL intra-articularly in each affected knee weekly for 5 weeks. Use separate vial/syringe for each knee.
Children Dosage:
Not established.
HYALGAN Contraindications:
Infection or skin disease at inj site.
HYALGAN Warnings/Precautions:
Treatment cycle <3 injections: not recommended. Avian protein, feather, egg allergy. Avoid strenuous activity within 48hrs after injection. Pregnancy. Nursing mothers.
HYALGAN Classification:
Hyaluronan.
HYALGAN Interactions:
Avoid disinfectants with quaternary ammonium salts. Concomitant other intra-articular injectables: not recommended.
Adverse Reactions:
Inj site pain, local reactions, transient knee inflammation.
