Program Description: From the December 2013 issue of The Clinical Advisor: Minimizing radiation risk from diagnostic imaging. In addition to increasing radiation exposure, CT scanning often uncovers
incidental findings that may lead to emotional stress for the patient.
Target Audience: This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.
Activity Objectives: After completing the activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Describe significant predictors of intracranial injury.
- Based on the PECARN study, relate conditions for which CT of the head is recommended.
- Identify disadvantages of a ventilation/perfusion scan to detect pulmonary embolism.
- List conditions for which abdominal ultrasound is advised in younger patients.
