A 10-year-old boy referred by his pediatrician presented with a six-week history of a scaly scalp lesion. Clinical examination revealed an oval, slightly erythematous growth approximately 3 cm in diameter with partial hair loss on the top of the scalp. The boy’s parents reported that they noticed no significant clinical improvement after four weeks of topical antifungal therapy. Direct microscopic examination using 10% KOH solution showed hyphae in the scales and ectothrix spores on and around the hair shaft. The scalp scales and hairs were collected and inoculated in dermatophyte test medium (DTM).
