Thanks to David S. Starr, MD, JD, for his answer to my question concerning retired clinicians’ desire to serve the needy in a volunteer capacity (Item 109-15). The Veterans Administration (VA) allows clinicians to practice without a license in all states. A volunteer clinicians’ service could exist under the auspices of the VA or the Public Health Service, thus bypassing the jealousy factor of the various states as well as the paranoid clinician entrepreneurs who see need as less important than greed. A clinicians’ domestic Peace Corps would attract many clinicians who place need above greed. I call on The Clinical Advisor and its readers to be proactive and champion this most needed endeavor.
