Blood pressure is at target but on treatment with ACEI/ARB combination (lisinopril and losartan potassium), which has been shown in the TARGET study to have long term detrimental effects on kidney function.
The patient also has chronic but mild hyperkalemia (4.7 to 5.5 inches the past three years). Per nephrology/hypertension specialist, it was recommended that he stop the losartan, and re-evaluate blood pressures and potassium in four weeks.
Upon recheck, blood pressures were stable at 120/70 mmHg with the change in medication. Potassium was rechecked, and was 4.2 (within normal range).
