Program Description: From the April 2013 issue of The Clinical Advisor: Vaginal bleeding in the
early stages of pregnancy. A number of potential causes of vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy must
be considered when deciding what type of management is required.
Target Audience: This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Activity Objectives: After completing the activity, the participant should be better able to:
- Identify the most common cause of fetal demise and subsequent spontaneous abortion.
- Name the condition reported by approximately 75% of women with ectopic pregnancy (EP).
- List the diagnostic test most frequently used to diagnose EP.
- Explain the management options for a woman with an unruptured EP.
