BOSTON – Denni Woodmansee, PA-C, director of physician assistant services at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs received the PAragon President’s Award at the American Academy of Physician Assistants IMPACT 2014 meeting.
“It’s said that patience is a virtue, which means that this year’s recipient is as virtuous as they come,” AAPA President Larry Herman, PA-C, MPA, DFAAPA, said during the opening general session, noting Woodmansee’s, “outstanding leadership and determination.”
During his 22 years at the VA, Woodmansee advocated for PA-positive policies that granted the 2,000 PAs working within the organization more autonomy and a greater role in medical decision making.

“I don’t think that PAs had been purposely omitted in previous policies or initiatives, I just think that PAs were not visible,” Woodmansee said. “It’s not enough for us to sit back and complain about what policy decisions have been made. If you show the value of your thoughts and your participation you’ll be taken more seriously and become more part of a team.”
