SAN ANTONIO — AAPA 2016: Power Up!, the 2016 annual meeting of the American Academy of PAs (AAPA), kicked off on Saturday, May 14th.
“This is such a landmark year for the PA profession – one that we have been building toward for a long time,” said Jennifer L. Dorn, MPA, CEO of AAPA. “AAPA 2016 delivers an exciting array of speeches, symposia, and other engaging events that will help you sharpen your clinical skills, build relationships with your PA colleagues, and learn how to be a leader not just in the exam room, but in the board room as well.”
The conference will be attended by more than 6,000 PAs and offers over 260 hours of CME credits throughout the course of 5 days. An additional 23 interactive SPARK sessions will provide practical information to current PA students. PAs are also able to meet members of constituent organizations (COs) at various CO events that offer locally based CME, leadership and networking opportunities, advocacy support, and job resources. Networking and alumni events will take place throughout the conference.

This year’s keynote speakers are Terry Stone and Kevin Lacz, PA-C. Ms Stone is the Managing Director of Oliver Wyman’s Health & Life Sciences practice group, and Mr Lacz is a Navy SEAL turned PA who went on to become a movie consultant and actor in the film American Sniper. With the theme of “Leading the Charge for Change in Healthcare,” both speakers discussed tactics for staying ahead of the curve in the ever-changing healthcare environment.
Special events at AAPA 2016 include the National Medical Challenge Bowl, PA Foundation fundraising events, a memorial ceremony from the Veterans Caucus of AAPA, product theaters from major pharmaceutical companies, and the AAPA Center for Healthcare Leadership and Management (CHLM) Symposium.
ePosters will be available to view throughout the meeting. Highlighted topics include research on clinical issues, case studies, and innovations in PA and patient education. ePoster authors will be available at special Meet the Author sessions to discuss their work, and daily presentations by PAs and PA students will highlight the top ePosters at the event.
