A patient aged 26 years who had just moved to the United States from Latin America came into our clinic. He was healthy but suffered hearing loss due to meningitis as a child. This is where “it takes a village” method of providing care becomes a valuable tool.
Through the assistance of our clinic director and an otolaryngologist, our patient was given hearing aids another patient decided not to purchase, and all for free because he had no insurance or resources. The patient came back into our clinic shortly after receiving the gift of sound, beaming from ear to ear.
