The number of bariatricprocedures in the UnitedStates grew ninefoldbetween 1998 and 2004,and the inpatient death ratedeclined over the sameperiod from 0.89% to 0.19%.Men were nearly three timesmore likely to die as women.No post-discharge mortalitydata were collected.
