Advances in the Treatment of Narcolepsy With Cataplexy: Role of Selective Histamine Receptor Modulation

Narcolepsy, with or without cataplexy, has been under-recognized, underdiagnosed, and poorly treated among adults and children. This article discusses new therapeutic agents that are now available that target the pathologic drivers of narcolepsy, including agents that modulate histamine through the H3 receptor specifically to treat excessive daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy and the symptoms of cataplexy.
