The heart transplant recipient, aged 13 months, was diagnosed with congenital heart disease (CHD). Approximately 10% of congenital heart disease diagnoses have been reported as uncorrectable.1
Infants with serious CHD generally present with symptoms during the newborn period. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), one of the most common indications of indications of infant heart transplantation, is reported to occur in 1 in 6000 live births.
