This patient developed propylthiouracil-induced ANCA(antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies)-associated vasculitis (AAV), a condition associated with significant morbidity and mortality. AAV encompasses three small-vessel vasculitides in which clinical features result from focal necrotizing lesions in vessels and organs and include alveolar hemorrhage, acute renal failure, and purpuric rashes.
