Image of the Week: Handwriting after a brain injury

After a very bad car accident, this 74-year-old man sustained a traumatic brain injury followed by an extensive hemorrhagic stroke. His first attempt at handwriting demonstrates expressive aphasia. Because his expressive speech was also significantly impaired, the patient required use of a speech-generating device.
